Invensys Defines its Foxboro Product’s Lifecycle Years In Advance
It is our desire to make it as easy as possible for customers to keep their I/A Series® Systems running at peak performance by providing the best lifecycle support possible. To accomplish this, we have defined a philosophy that identifies when products will move from one phase to the next (Preferred, Available, Mature, LifeTime), which ensures world-class support and provides maximum compatibility between system components of different generations. This policy is designed to help take the guesswork out of the length of time Invensys provides support for a product. For more information, see a Customer Guide to Lifecycle Policy document on http://support.ips.invensys.com. (Registration required).
Lifecycle Support Policy
Foxboro Lifecycle Support policy provides consistent and predictable guidelines for product support, compatibility, availability and repair. The policy is designed to establish a clear and predictable policy for product support timelines, and to assist our customers with managing end of life issues related to their installed I/A Series equipment. This proactive approach provides a comprehensive view of where products are in their lifecycle, when they are expected to transition from sale and what support is available in each phase of the products life. In turn, this information, coupled with our long-term technology roadmap, allows our customers to plan product upgrades years in advance, based on knowledge of the timelines for Foxboro products.
Intellectual Property Preservation
As the I/A Series platform evolves, it is important that Invensys customers understand that our policies for compatibility of new and old products (hardware, base software and application software) have not changed. The unique Foxboro
Continuously Current philosophy has always ensured that customers have a migration path to the latest technology and architecture that preserves the intellectual property investments made in graphic displays, control strategies, historical information, etc. This philosophy will continue as Foxboro platforms move forward. This approach continues to provide customers easy and cost effective ways to improve control, reduce downtime, increase maintainability, and pre-plan upgrades while preserving software, hardware and engineering investments.
Long Lived Architecture
Invensys’s Lifecycle Policy provides long-term support for products well after they are withdrawn from sale. Products that are withdrawn from sale enter the Mature Phase. The length of time that a standard product remains in this phase varies is based on product type, and is directly related to the degree of disruption to our customers’ processes – the more difficult it is to remove, the longer the duration. At the end of the Mature Phase, the product enters the LifeTime Phase, where it remains as long as needed by the end user. Please refer to the Lifecycle Customer Guide for complete details.
