Benefits of Storing Inspection Data
Like many utilities, the Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities (VBDPU) and its consultants performed manhole inspections and closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspections of gravity sanitary sewer mains for traditional evaluation and rehabilitation projects. Reports were generated, used for any applicable rehabilitation, and filed for storage. Consequently, inspection results tended to accumulate in difficult-to-use basement libraries, stacked floor-to-ceiling with binders or boxes of data. An alternative was needed so that the information could more readily be used.
A program was implemented to store inspection and use the collected data more efficiently. Not only does storing the inspection data in this way eliminate the warehouse of old CCTV inspection reports, it allows VBDPU to use the data in ways not previously feasible.
Pretreatment and Effluent EPA Guidelines
The heart of the National Pretreatment Program is the ability of a municipality to assess site-specific capabilities of its wastewater treatment system and to determine the most effective means to achieve compliance with its wastewater and biosolids goals and limitations. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a manual to incorporate historical data on various techniques, emphasize priority activities, provide guidance on technical advances in analytical procedures, and to integrate regulatory and policy changes that have occurred.
Selection of Automation Equipment
In response to an ever-increasing demand for and utilization of automation in wastewater treatment, criteria have been devised to aid in the selection of automation components. The reality is there us an abundance of automation equipment available, some useful and some not. You need to look carefully to determine what is needed for your situation. This abstract, developed by Cobb County Water Systems, overviews some of the essential items to look at and consider.
Analyzer Applications Process Control
A new technology has been developed that bypasses laboratory testing to continuously and accurately monitor ammonia and nitrates directly in wastewater or activated sludge. With rising power costs and more stringent permit requirements, faster and proper control of parameters is vital. Manufacturers have made great advances in sensors and analyzer technologies
